In September 2013 and July 2014, a team of collaborators and I traveled to Colorado to collect and observe bark beetles in their native habitat. The bark beetles live under the thick bark of Ponderosa Pine trees which making collecting them extremely difficult. These trips were mainly experiments in various collecting techniques and explorations of potential long-term research sites. We now have a group of high schoolers in Ft. Collins working with us to monitor pheromone traps and collect bark beetles and their predators.
